Summize.com

Summize is a search engine that provides you with results based on consumer opinion and reviews on a product. It’s not meant to be a price comparison search engine, although they do provide you with the most recent prices from Amazon which is currently who they’re affiliated with. The opinions go from great to wretched with wretched obviously being awful. The results appear on a color coded bar, called a “snip”, which allows you to quickly see who’s in the green (great!) and who’s in the red (wretched!).

A screencast glimpse into Gmail

Gmail is crazy. It’s your email, but it’s your email with a bachelor’s degree, a masters, and a PhD. Meaning, there’s a lot goin’ on. I decided to create a screencast covering some of Gmail’s features, although it would take twenty 9 minute screencasts to include them all, to give those of you who simply use it to send and receive emails a glimpse of what else it has to offer.

Now it's time for my two cents

Things are changing a bit here on DemoGirl.  Instead of just posting screencast and video demos that I find, I’ll now be posting all the screencasts I create on DemoGirl as well.  If you hadn’t checked out my other blog in the past, Screeniac.com, maybe you wouldn’t know that for the past year I’ve been creating my own screencasts of cool sites I find on the web.  I’ve got over 200 up there at the moment, so you should check it out some time.  It just seems silly to keep the two separate and now you’ll have a lot more choices of screencast and video demos to check out.  I hope you enjoy the new arrangement and look forward to hearing your comments!

Meanwhile, here are some screencasts most recently posted on Screeniac.com:

VoiceThread is very cool

VoiceThread is a service that provides you with a place to create VoiceBooks, which are essentially photo albums with audio narration. VoiceBooks can be made from photo albums, scrapbooks, and even yearbooks. Each person in the photo can create their own audio message, possibly describing how they were feeling while the photo was being taken. Here’s a demo of a VoiceThread VoiceBook and a bit of information on the inspiration behind the site.

Business-Paper.net

Business-Paper is a service that helps designers organize and create business cards for clients and allows businesses to easily create and order their own cards. They have a very quick screencast demo showing how quickly you can order your cards. The only problem I had was that I can’t for the life of me figure out how to create an account! Am I missing something?

Shameless self promotion

As some of you may know, I do custom screencast work. The screencasts I post on Screeniac are all created and designed by me and are not paid for, unless disclosed. I recently finished two projects for two completely different services. I was hired to create these screencasts and did my best to give the companies what they wanted. (They were both extremely patient and pleasant to work with.) I decided to post them here and on Screeniac, with the companies permission, so you have an idea of what a custom screencast for your company may look like.

The first is for ExtremePlanner, “Agile Project Planning for Software Teams”. The second is a group of screencast demos for JetTask, “The ultimate task list”. I hope you enjoy them and I’d love to hear your feedback.
