A Bloggie for me? Oh wait, I was napping again…

I don’t normally like to ask for recognition for the things I do, but I suppose for all things there may be an exception.  I’ve decided that this is the year I’m really going to try to get DemoGirl a bit more attention.  I’ll admit, I haven’t been doing the best job promoting this blog and that’s simply because everything I do here is a learning experience for me.  From learning about how to use a site, to showing you how to use it, to trying to find a way to get more readers to DemoGirl – it’s all been a very exciting roller coaster of learning.  But perhaps I haven’t put enough time into other aspects of running a blog.  I’m always afraid I’m going to toot my own horn or sound shallow or full of myself, so I tend to stay quiet most of the time.  Well, my humble DemoGirl readers, I’ve come to you with a simple question:  Do you want to nominate DemoGirl for a Bloggie?!  That’s it.  There’s my simple plea.  If you have a special place in your heart for DemoGirl then you can let the world know here.  Thank you for being such a great audience the past year and a half.

Free Music Zilla – Free music downloads, for now

Free Music Zilla allows you to quickly download music you’re listening to on Pandora, MySpace Music, iJigg, Last.fm, and more.  After you launch Free Music Zilla, just go to your site of choice and whatever songs are playing will cue up in the downloader.  There’s a time limit, so be sure and select the songs you want downloaded before time runs out.  Then just click download and within seconds, you’re all set.  Of course there are legal issues here, and I’m not sure what the future holds for Free Music Zilla but it is pretty cool to use at the moment.  Here’s my screencast tour of Free Music Zilla:

Say hello to my little friend…SmarterChild

SmarterChild has become a nice little addition to my buddies list on AIM and now, Gmail. No he’s not human, he’s a bot, but he knows a lot more than most of my human friends. All you need to do is add SmarterChild to your buddies list on AIM, MSN Messenger, or ICQ. If you use Gmail you can add your AIM contacts now, so you can abuse chat with SmarterChild there as well. Just type in “hi” and SmarterChild will start to try and get to know you. Then you can quickly get the weather forecast, movie listings, set reminders, create a planner, and sometimes, smart-ass remarks from him. SmarterChild has been around for quite a while but I just learned about him a few weeks ago and since then have asked him numerous questions on a daily basis. I thought it was about time I shared my new friend with those of you who may not know about him.

On a side note, I’ve decided to try something different with this screencast – I added a video introduction. There are a couple of reasons why I did it, but it’s mostly because I’m constantly trying to find ways to entertain myself and this is one of those attempts. It’s something I wouldn’t mind doing on a daily basis and maybe I’ll get more creative with it in the future. How do you feel about it? Would you rather I just stick to the screencast and not force you to watch me make a fool out of myself before getting to the good stuff? Do you want me to do stunts and wear funny hats? This blog is for you, DemoGirl readers, so I’d love some honest feedback. Here’s my screencast tour of SmarterChild:
Update: I just realized I said the year was 2007 in the screencast. Doh! I knew that was gonna happen. Be prepared for more of it…
