The Awesome Highlighter – It Does Just As The Name Implies

The Awesome Highlighter is a great tool for anyone who wants to point out specific text on a website that they’ve shared with a friend or co-worker. There’s nothing to install and you don’t even need to register in order to use it. You simply enter in the URL for the site you want to share, highlight the text you want noted, and save it. You’ll receive a shortened URL that you can send off to your friends or co-workers. If you do sign up for a free account, you’ll be able to keep track of your highlights and return to them later if you need to make changes. You can also post your highlighted page directly to Twitter. The simplicity of The Awesome Highlighter is what I like the most about it. It does just what it says it’s going to do. Here’s my screencast tour of The Awesome Highlighter:

Thank you for your great blog post! My name is Joel, I’m with the Awesome Highlighter Team. This quote really made our day: “The simplicity of The Awesome Highlighter is what I like the most about it. It does just what it says it’s going to do.”

I’m glad you like the product so far and we’re working hard to make it a lot better. If you have any questions let me know.

    Joel

I love this tool, especially since I’m going to create missions on http://pmog.com that include a number of Google Analytics-pages. Before this I was (almost) nostalgic to the old anchor-tag but this way is much better. Thanks for the info and to Joel lots of success.

Diigo has been a great web highlighter for years – much more powerful than this, though it does require log-in

Check the output carefully before you forward it to anyone else. It doesn’t seem to work on a number of pages. I have corresponded with the team, they are aware of problems but any fix is weeks away. Use with care. I posted a blog entry that pointed to a highlighted page and was embarrassed when a reader e-mailed me that the highlighted text didn’t match the sections I had blockquoted in my post: http://www.skmurphy.com/blog/2008/04/11/highlighting-matt-maroons-why-not-to-do-a-startup/
