Meet The New "Hot Chick" In The Twitter Neighborhood: blu

Blu is a Twitter desktop application that makes most other Twitter desktop applications look like, well, not so pretty.  It’s only Windows 7 and Vista compatible so some of you may have to just watch the embedded screencast to see its beauty.

After you download and run it, all you need to do is sign in using your Twitter credentials.  You’ll see your twitter stream, which automatically updates every 2 minutes or so, and you can update right from blu.  You can also instantly reply, dm, and retweet directly from the timeline.  When a tweet is a reply to another tweet, you’ll be able to “flip over” the tweet to see the original conversation.

You can also favor people you follow on Twitter and their tweets will also appear in your “Faves” so you’ll be able to keep up with what your favorite people are doing.

My two issues with blu:  You can’t resize the Twitter stream window and there doesn’t seem to be a way to see replies to my tweets.  The latter of those two issues causes me to return to Digsby, my IM/Twitter/email client of choice, previously reviewed here.

To see blu in action, watch the screencast below:

WOW! That was a great run through of blu. Thanks for doing that and giving a great review.

2 things you missed. Click on the date of any tweet to copy that link to the clipboard, and tinyURL integration (just paste or type a URL into the update bubble, and it will auto truncate for you).

Also, blu will let you know when twitter is down, and if you don’t have any internet connectivity, you get a little surprise there as well.

    Thanks for the great demo!

    Hal!

    P.S. @replies coming soon. :)

Wow. That looks so sexy! But it does bother me I can’t check my replies. That seems like an essential feature and I’m baffled as to why they wouldn’t have that functionality. I really dig the favorite feature. I know I absolutely despise TweetDeck. It’s slow, clunky, ugly and doesn’t actually work the way it should. But if I’m able to favor people in order to see their tweets and keep up with those, then I’m happy.

Looks like there’s still some work to be done on the product, but goodness it looks good!

Mattie – I’m in total agreement with you. When you have a lot of followers, it’s a necessity to be able to track your replies, otherwise you may miss out on some good conversation with people who like what you have to say.
      -1 for no replies
      +1 for favorites!
