Want To See What Movies Are Playing Right Now in Your Neighborhood? Try ShowtimeFu

ShowtimeFu is a really simple site that helps you do pretty much one thing:  See what movies are playing nearby at any time during the day.

showtimefu_1

All you need to do is enter in your location and click on search.  ShowtimeFu will show you every movie playing nearby with showtimes and theaters.  You can filter your search by what time you’d like the movie to begin and/or end, select specific movies and select specific theaters.  With each listing you’ll see how long the movie is, the average rating on RottenTomatoes and the time you should expect the movie to end.

showtimefu_2

If you click on the movie title you’ll get more info from IMDB, trailers, and the theaters where you can see it.  You can also get a map of where the theater is located.

Act Like a Superstar Movie Maker with Stupeflix

Stupeflix is a fun site that helps you  create movies out of your images and video.

stupeflix_logo

All you need to do is add your media and Stupeflix does most of the “editing” for you.  You can add text and music to your movie and download it when you’re done.  The entire process should only take a few minutes, but could take more if you want to add a lot of media and/or detail to your movie.   All of this is done within the Stupeflix Editor, and you can choose how much work you want to put into it – you can choose transitions and colors, or you can have Stupeflix do it for you.

stupeflix_2

When adding media you have the choice to upload your own, add URLs to images on the Web, or you can choose images from Flickr.  There doesn’t seem to be a limit to how much media you can add or the length of the final video – which is really nice.  When you’re done editing your video you can choose to have Stupeflix produce a large video that is YouTube ready, a medium size video which is iPhone ready, or a large or medium flash video.

Stupeflix is free to use and doesn’t require any downloads.

Get Useful Feedback on your Web Projects with Notable

We here at DemoGirl have been working to get a fresh site up, but sometimes the collaboration process is a bit laborious.  I’m thinking things might move along a bit more if we use something like Notable.

notable

Notable provides users with the tools to quickly give or receive feedback on a Web project.  You can sign up for the free service, or choose one of the paid accounts.  Once you are signed up you can quickly capture pages or images — either with their Firefox plug-in, an upload or simply by using your browser — and save them to a workspace.  You and the people you invite (or you can make the workspace public) can then start adding notes about the project.

Notes can be added to the screenshot by simply selecting areas with your mouse.  You can also add feedback to the code or just the copy of a site or application.  Comments can be made on the overall project or just on specific notes. And you can keep track of who is providing the feedback to your project.  Notable seems like it would fit the bill for the small project we are working on — plus, it might be easier for Molzy to use Notable to tell me that my design scheme sucks.

Clicker: Like Tivo For Online Video

Clicker helps you find and save video that’s available to watch online, from sources all over the Web.  It’s in private beta now but I received an invite and thought I’d show you around.

clicker_1

After you sign in you can immediately start searching for your favorite TV shows, movies, music, and Web originals to save to your playlist.  When you find what you’re looking for (using TV as an example) you can add an entire season or just a single episode.  If you add an entire season then every time an episode is available to view online, it will be dropped right into your account.

clicker_2

Clicker is also part wiki – meaning that you can edit the show descriptions, tags, and add notes and character descriptions.  These edits are reviewed by the Clicker staff before publication.

clicker_3

After you watch a video that you have in your queue playlist it will automatically be placed in your “watched video” section so you can find it again.  On the Clicker about page they note that Netflix will soon be added so I assume that you’ll be able to also store movies available on “Watch Instant”. You can sign up to get an invite to the service here.

SeatGeek Predicts the Best Time to Buy Tickets to Concerts and Sporting Events

SeatGeek is a service that wants to help you get the best deal on tickets to concerts and sporting events.  It uses a history of ticket sales to predict whether or not prices will drop and then compares prices from sites like StubHub, eBay, and  TicketCity.

seatgeek_logo

Begin by searching by venue, artist, or team and then select the event you would like to attend.  SeatGeek will then search multiple ticket sales sites and tell you weather or not to buy or wait for prices to drop.

seatgeek_3

You can view the seat numbers as well as the face value of the tickets compared to what they’re currently being sold for.  If you don’t mind the price then you can continue on to buy the tickets.  Otherwise, just lick on “subscribe to alert” and you’ll be emailed if the price drops.

seatgeek_4

SeatGeek is currently limited to Major League Baseball Games and select concert venues, but hopefully they’ll have a wider range of events available to track sooner than later.  As of today, SeatGeek helped me see that I can get a better deal on tickets to a Giant’s game I want to attend…let’s hope their prediction is correct.

Navigating the Day's News is a Breeze with Google Fast Flip

Google Labs recently launched Fast Flip.  It aggregates news stories from many popular sources and presents them in a format that is very east to navigate.

Readers can sort stories by different categories, sources, topics or search terms.  Navigating through the articles is as simple as clicking arrows on the page or using a keyboard.  Google Fast Flip is also available for the iPhone and Android devices.

I found that the pages loaded extremely fast — and if you use your keyboard to flip through articles, navigation is even faster.

A Quick Look at Yahoo Meme

Yahoo Meme is a Microblogging service from Yahoo that recently launched in English.  Basically, Yahoo Meme gives you a way to quickly post text (140 characters), images, videos from YouTube and Vimeo, and MP3′s (you can only link to an MP3 on the Web).  These items can quickly be reposted by other users and commented on.  It’s currently invite only, but once you receive an invite you can sign in with your Yahoo credentials.

meme_1

You can create a brief profile with a title and description of your Meme, a photo, and that’s about it.  You can choose to follow other Meme users so you can keep up with what they’re posting.  The reposing feature works quite nicely, and you can keep track of conversations about an item by viewing the comment thread.

meme_2

When I got the invite to Yahoo Meme and signed in, my first thought was, “So…it’s Tumblr without all the features?”.  That’s pretty much what I still think, even after browsing around the site for a bit today, but I’m willing to give it some time since it’s still in the very early stages of development (I hope).

Whip up Cool, Interactive Business Cards with DooID

Thanks to a tip on KillerStartups, I decided to check out DooID.

dooid

The site offers some great features that can help you make a really nice Web business card.  Two features I could see myself using are the widget you can add to your blog and the email signature you can grab.

It only took me a few minutes to set up the profile and you can choose a theme from DooID’s offerings or create your own.  The site also allows you to lock up some data so that only people with a guest password can see that information.

modooid
One part of the card will contain links to your pages on various social networks and visitors can subscribe to a feed that will include all of the info from the networks you are displaying.
modooid2I liked the newscloud option — you can connect up with your Twitter account so that when you post to Twitter, your updates will automatically show up in your newscloud.

Try JamLegend for Fun and Frustration on Your Lunch Break

I have to admit that I don’t have a Wii and I’ve never played Guitar Hero or any other game of that ilk. But every now and then a girl needs to take a break from work and online music game JamLegend provides a fun alternative to waiting on the front porch for the FedEx guy.

jam

JamLegend is a game that seems to have one mission — to drive me insane. I normally shy away from video games; I’m afraid I might sit for hours in front of a screen just trying to better my score. I decided to ignore the inner-voice that was telling me to “stay away from games” and I’m glad I did.

You don’t have to sign up for an account in order to play JamLegend. Just choose a song and then pound out a 1, 2 or 3 on your keyboard along with the beat. Sounds easy enough… but beware, it is a bit addicting. The site makes it easy to share songs with your friends on Facebook, Myspace and Twitter. You can duel your friends or join the live showdowns. You can even upload music from your own library

If you have a few minutes and you want to forget about the voicemail light blinking on your phone, check out the screencast below (best viewed in HD in full screen):
